Boot Updated but Win7 Doesn't recognize PM3 when button pressed

I have a PM3 that I am trying to get started with. I can understand why there is the warning about needing to be technically inclined; lots of contradictory/out of date information/procedures out there.

Here where I am. I'm using Win7 x64. I have the PM3 installed and I can see it in the device manager as a libusb-win32 device. I updated the bootROM to to r671. I next tried to update fpgaimage.elf and osimage.elf but when I disconnect the PM3, hold the button and then reconnect, Win7 gives me three quick beeps instead of the normal USB device connect sounds. The device is no longer recognized by Win7.

If I connect normally and check on the PM3 is seems to be functioning. This is what I get when I check HW REV.

Connected units:
        1. SN: ChangeMe [bus-0/\\.\libusb0-0001--0x9ac4-0x4b8f]

#db# FPGA image built on 2009/12/ 8 at 8: 3:54

I would like to get the thing updated so I can start experimenting with the newer releases and use the GUI client.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Boot Updated but Win7 Doesn't recognize PM3 when button pressed

After having some time to think about it, I decided this was essentially a Windows driver problem. Without the button pressed, the PM3 was seen in Win7 as a libusb-win32 device. When I pressed the button, the device disappeared because with the button pressed it is not the same device.

I pulled in the PM3 while holding the button down. I went to device manager and found the unknown device and followed the update driver procedures and selected the manual install. I then pointed Windows to the new CDC drivers and Windows found the device and installed it on COM4. I changed the flasher bat files from COM5 to COM4 and was able to update the bootrom, OS, and FPGA to the ver 756 files.

I hope this helps somebody else similarly stuck. Now it's time to start figuring out the capabilities of my PM3.
